The adventure begins! Arriving the night before your Disney Cruise is an absolute necessity in our opinion — it accounts for possible travel delays, flight cancellations, and gives you one less thing to stress about on embarkation day. Here is our complete guide to Day 1 at Port Everglades.
Getting to Port Everglades
From downtown Fort Lauderdale or nearby hotels, Port Everglades is easily accessible via Lyft, Uber, or taxi. The dedicated rideshare entry point makes drop-off smooth and straightforward.
Address: 1850 Eller Drive, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316
Direction: Follow signs to Terminal 4 — that is your Disney Cruise Line terminal.
Port Everglades Overview
Disney Cruise Line Fort Lauderdale calls Terminal 4 home — a modern, clean facility designed specifically for large cruise ships. The terminal is spacious, air-conditioned, and staff are incredibly friendly.
Parking Information
| Duration | Rate |
| 0-1 hour | $4 |
| 1-5 hours | $8 |
| Daily maximum | $20 |
| Oversized vehicles (daily) | $25 |
Tip: If you are driving from Ottawa or flying in the night before, park at the port on embarkation morning — rates are reasonable and it is convenient.
Arrival Time and Wait Time
Your assigned boarding group determines your arrival time. Check your Disney Cruise Line app or cruise documents the night before. Based on our boarding Group for the Disney Dream out of Fort Lauderdale see the calculation below.

Keep in Mind
- Early groups move faster (less congestion)
- There may be pauses for:
- safety drills
- terminal crowd control
- Later groups can bunch up slightly
Embarkation Process: What to Expect
The Disney Cruise embarkation process is incredibly smooth. Here is the flow:
- Check-in: Present your boarding documents (passports, forms) at the terminal entrance
- Security: Standard TSA-like screening — have your boarding pass ready
- Welcome aboard: Disney Cast Members scan your documents and hand you your Key to the World card
- Stateroom ready: Your room typically will not be ready until 1:30 PM — staterooms open in waves by deck number

First Impressions of the Disney Dream
Walking onto the Disney Dream for the first time is unforgettable. Starting with the signature Disney welcome. The stunning three-deck atrium (The Lobby) with its grand staircase sets the tone — you are not just on a cruise, you are in the Disney bubble.
Every detail screams Disney: live piano music, character meet-and-greets, and that signature Disney warmth from every Cast Member you pass.
Our Stateroom
| Feature | Details |
| Deck | 7 (Verandah) |
| Category | 7A (Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah) |
| Location | Mid-ship, port side |
| Size | ~204 sq ft + verandah |
Our stateroom was the perfect home away from home — compact but cleverly designed, with plenty of storage, a split bathroom (toilet room + shower/tub), and that magical verandah for morning coffee with ocean views.

Lunch on Embarkation Day
Cabanas is open for lunch on embarkation day — it is the perfect first meal. This casual buffet offers everything from fresh salads to carved meats and made-to-order stations.
Pro tip: Skip the line by heading to Cabanas right at opening (around 12:30 PM) — it is less crowded and you can explore the ship while others are still boarding.
Must-Do on Day 1
- Register for Vibe & The Oceaneer Club: Check in at the youth clubs — your kids ages determine where they can go
- Experience AquaDuck: The AquaDuck water coaster is a must-ride — try it early before lines build
- Explore the ship: Download the Disney Cruise Line app to see dining times, show schedules, and character appearances
- Photo opportunities: Character meet-and-greets happen throughout the ship — check the app for times
Safety Drill (Muster)
Mandatory muster drill happens around 3:30-4:00 PM. You will gather at your assigned assembly station (listed on your Key to the World card) for a 20-30 minute safety briefing. It is required — do not skip it!

Sailing Away
Around 4:00-4:30 PM, the ship begins to sail. Head to Deck 10 or 11 for the best views — the sail-away moment is magical as you depart Fort Lauderdale and head out to sea.
Our pick: Deck 11 near the forward funnel — you get views of the entire ship and open ocean.
Our Day 1 Highlights
- Walking into the three-deck atrium and seeing the grand staircase
- First meal at Cabanas — the lobster tails were incredible
- Riding AquaDuck three times in a row (yes, really)
- The sail-away moment — watching Fort Lauderdale shrink behind us
- Meeting Mickey in his cruise gear!
Tips for Your Embarkation Day
- Arrive the night before — it saves stress and lets you enjoy day one fully
- Download the Disney Cruise Line app before you leave — you can check in online
- Bring a carry-on with essentials — your suitcase may not arrive at your stateroom until 2-3 PM
- Head to Cabanas early for lunch — beat the crowds
- Register for youth clubs immediately — spots fill up
- Do not stress about photos — Photo Pass is included, and character meet-and-greets happen throughout the cruise
Day 1 on the Disney Dream sets the tone for an incredible cruise. Fort Lauderdale port is smooth, the ship is stunning, and the Disney magic starts the moment you step onboard. See you on the ship!
