The first ride-through attraction at a Disney theme park to feature Mickey and Minnie opens on March 4. Just ahead of its debut, we have our first clear look at Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. It looks magical, so magical I can almost forgive it for replacing the Great Movie Ride.
What is Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway?
Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway is the first time Mickey and Minnie are appearing in their very own Disney park attraction!
The Runaway Railway ride places you in the center of one of Mickey Mouse cartoons. The premise is, of course, that you’re on an out-of-control railroad car, courtesy of Goofy.
Guests are invited to the premiere of Mickey and Minnie’s latest film, Perfect Picnic. The lobby of the theater contains posters of other Mickey and Minnie shorts, which are movies in this cartoon world. While viewing Perfect Picnic in the theater, something goes amiss and guests will be sucked right into the cartoon universe.
You move gently, through ten large, cartoon show scenes, from tropical islands to cities, to out-of-control factories. In each scene, Mickey and Minnie attempt to save you from disaster, with mixed results.
In each scene, Disney uses a mix of traditional, three-dimensional painted sets, and the latest in video projection technology, to show movement and special effects.
Disney announced a few weeks ago that Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway will be a Tier 1 FastPass+ attraction in Hollywood Studios along with Slinky Dog Dash and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. If you’re unable to get FastPasses for Runaway Railway, try riding as soon as the park opens, or in the last two hours the park is open.
